Profiles of Ethiopian centenarians: A qualitative inquiry

As global aging advances, the number of centenarians worldwide is greatly increasing. Most what known about comes Global North. It not clear factors contribute to longevity in impoverished, mostly rural areas South nations that still lack basic amenities. Cultural differences profile, lifestyles, and needs Africa have yet be documented. Using a case study design, this descriptive inquiry investigated profiles Ethiopia including religion, marriage, education, occupation, income, living arrangement. Data were generated through in-depth interviews with nine (1 woman, 8 men) analyzed using narrative analysis. Respondents between 100 108 years old. All adherents Orthodox Christianity, had been married, great-grandparents. Their adult lives marked by both residential marital stability. The Ethiopian persevered many losses hardships help strong community-based social networks.. Unlike studies North, most respondents male strict religious upbringings. Understanding unique will inform research practice growing population oldest-old.
